Significant uncertainty clouds the future of the global economy, driven largely by ongoing trade tensions initiated by the U.S. and pending final decisions on tariffs. This perspective was shared by Prof. Raoul Eamets, Chief Economist at Bigbank, during a recent interview on the “In Development” program on Bloomberg TV Bulgaria, hosted by Veronika Denizova. Prof. Eamets will also be a keynote speaker at Investor.bg’s Banking Today conference.
“At the beginning of the year, the German economy was expected to grow by 0.3%. Now, the forecast has shifted to zero growth for this year. If the tariffs are implemented, major economies like Germany could face even greater challenges. Germany alone accounts for 24% of the Eurozone’s GDP and 30% of its exports. If it struggles, the ripple effects will be felt across Europe,” Prof. Eamets noted.
On interest rates, Prof. Eamets is cautiously optimistic, suggesting that Europe may see rate cuts this summer, with the potential for further reductions in the fall.
