Polish billionaire Rafał Brzoska and his wife are planning to sue Meta over fake ads on Facebook and Instagram that misuse his image and spread false information about her. They have yet to choose where to file the lawsuit, but it’s part of broader efforts to make Meta accountable for recurring fake ads, even after users report them. Meta’s spokesperson stated they removed the false ads and work with local authorities to combat scammers.

Brzoska, who founded the Polish parcel locker company InPost and the family office RIO ASI, reported the issue to Meta in early July, but it remains unresolved.

“We plan to file a private lawsuit against Meta… We have not yet determined in which jurisdictions we will sue Meta. We will decide in the next few weeks, ” he told Reuters.

They want Meta to stop profiting from content that violates their rights and are demanding a large compensation, which they intend to donate to charity.

Recently, the Personal Data Protection Office ordered Meta Platforms Ireland Limited to stop displaying false ads involving Brzoska and his wife’s data on Facebook and Instagram in Poland for three months.

Meta’s spokesperson acknowledged the issue, stating, “Scammers use every platform available to them to defraud people and constantly adapt to evade getting caught. Scam content breaks our rules and we remove it when we find it,” adding that the company is assessing the office’s decision and highlighted their ongoing efforts to collaborate with authorities to tackle scammers.
