Is it feasible to talk about innovations without the legislative engine? And how can adequate and timely policies scale innovations on a national and international level?
These are some of the questions that the “Innovation Through Policy” conference will tackle on June 24, 2022.
The event will take place at Sheraton Sofia Hotel Balkan. It is organized by Tsvetelina Penkova – a member of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and a member of the European Parliament (EP). As a MEP, she’s been serving on the Committee on Budgetary Control, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, and the Committee on Regional Development.
EU and governmental officials, business organizations, and Bulgarian tech startups will join the discussion that will focus on the role of the country and the EU in the future development of innovation and technology. They will also talk about how to support young people as a driving force of innovation.
The event will be opened by the European Commissioner for Innovation and Research Mariya Gabriel and the Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov among other representatives of the Bulgarian government and business associations.
Further on the program, the Bulgarian Minister of Innovation and Growth Daniel Lorer will give an overview of the key EU and national policies that will drive innovations in Bulgaria for the next decade, while Tsvetelina Penkova will dive into the need for EU legislation for the development of tech startup enterprises.
Recently, 17 Central European countries, including Bulgaria, started an initiative to foster innovation and sustainable development by creating new regional legislation.
The second panel will present insights from the CEO of the Bulgarian Startup Association (BESCO) Ned Dervenkov. He will explain the need for a legislative reform for the development of startup enterprises and the attraction of tech talent in Bulgaria. The organization has already been working with politicians to improve the framework for doing digital business in the country, proposing a new legal enterprise that will present a possibility to establish a flexible management of a given company and to do options pool vesting.
The Recursive’s CEO Irina Obushtarova will highlight the key role of information awareness as a driving force for young people’s development in the area of technology and innovation.
