Yesterday, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu held a meeting at the Government Palace Victoria with Google representatives, signing a memorandum between the two parties.
The memorandum of understanding on cooperation aligns with Romania‘s plans to advance digital infrastructure, innovation, and research, as reported by Romanian Agerpress.
The US tech giant Google may invest up to $2B in a data center that is planned to open in the country. During negotiations, the government highlighted the center’s regional importance. The aim is to establish it similarly to Google’s existing $2B facility in Poland, which was expanded four years ago to enhance its cloud computing services.
In 2019, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai announced their plans to invest $3B in expanding data centers across Europe over the next couple of years.
