Bulgarian Telerik Academy, a training company for career growth and professional development, has announced the launch of a franchise operation in Georgia under a new brand – Katalysta.
Telerik Academy is a spin-off of Telerik, one of the most successful Bulgarian software companies. In 2014 Telerik was acquired by American Progress Software. This deal is still one of the largest in the corporate history of Bulgaria for a company, which was created and developed independently by Bulgarian entrepreneurs.
Stepping on a new market
Georgia’s startup ecosystem ranks 17th in Eastern Europe and 70th globally. Moreover, the country’s digital infrastructure has improved in recent years, and Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA) has invested $12 million in around 200 startups since 2018, helping to create a deep pool of local tech talent.
By introducing its 6-month Alpha program, Telerik Academy aims to bridge that talent gap and accelerate the growth of Georgia’s tech industry. The initiative will partner with Spinom Digital, a Georgian software development company specializing in e-commerce solutions, web development, and app support.
“Expanding to Georgia is a natural step for us,” said Alexandra Mechkova, CEO of Telerik Academy. “The name Katalysta comes from the word ‘catalyst,’ reflecting our even bolder ambitions globally. We are excited that this significant milestone in our development coincides with our 15th anniversary. We believe our model can be successfully replicated and become a catalyst for positive change at both an individual and industry level in markets with developing IT ecosystems that need talent to thrive,” said Alexandra Mechkova, CEO of Telerik Academy.
Starting today, applications are open for the first cohort in Georgia — Alpha Java. Efforts are also directed toward recruiting participants for the program or inviting them to try programming through free self-preparation materials.
Development plans in Bulgaria
In Bulgaria, the company will continue to operate under the Telerik Academy brand, with development plans remaining unchanged. The focus for 2025 will not only be on developing junior IT talent but also on expanding the portfolio of programs in business, marketing, design, product management, HR, leadership skills, data analysis, AI, and more.
