Czech startup E2B has successfully raised $11.5M (€10.6) in a seed round, led by Alessio Fanelli of Decibel Partners.
Founded in 2023 by childhood friends Tomáš Valenta and Václav Mlejnský, E2B has its roots in iPhone game development. As they pursued their studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, they shifted their focus to computer vision and, in recent years, developed various tools aimed at helping developers.
E2B now focuses on developing cloud infrastructure designed specifically for AI agents and applications. “At E2B, we’re building an open-source cloud environment for the era of software built by artificial intelligence and AI agents,” explained Mlejnský.
AI agents are applications that can function as virtual software developers or assistants. E2B’s platform simplifies the process of running and testing AI-generated code in “sandboxes”, safe testing environments that use a company’s own data. Another key application is the analysis and visualization of data using AI-generated code.
How AI agents work
“An AI agent is software that autonomously interacts with its environment, gathers data, and uses this information to achieve predefined goals. To make these agents as autonomous and reliable as possible, they need a specialized cloud environment where they can safely operate and use other tools to meet their objectives,” Mlejnský added.
Since January, E2B reports that its sandboxes have been launched over six million times by developers worldwide, including those from companies like Perplexity and the PGA, the organizer of American golf tours.
“E2B is a pioneer in building infrastructure for AI agents,” said Karel Zheng from Kaya VC for CzechCrunch. The VC fund has also shown support for E2B on LinkedIn, highlighting that the company is actively hiring new team members.
