When it comes to AI regulation, it’s vital to keep a sense of proportionality on any general restrictions and avoid being overly broad in scope or overly prescriptive. I believe that CEE startups could enhance their voice and presence by creating local coalitions, on one hand, to represent their perspectives and joining other regional initiatives to support their vision.
When we started the first company doing AI here in 2008, everyone thought we were crazy and there were like three startups in the whole country, and there were one or two VCs. Now we have more than 20 VC funds in the country, and something like around 500 actual startups, depending on how we count that and define what a startup is. Many of them are doing AI.
We have seen a lot of AI in image-based diagnostics. When I say diagnostics, I mean medical but also in agriculture. You look at the field with images and see whether you need to use fertiliser or not. Or in the maintenance of wind turbines, you send a little drone that with AI recognizes through image processing, whether you need maintenance.
